Question Need advice..Won a Yamaha VX

So the wife won this ski thru Bud Light. We have some questions that we hope you guys cN help with.

I have wanted I ski for a few years now but I want a faster model than the VX. She has no desire whatsoever in keeping it.

So should we sell? How much does a 2011 VX sport go for unused? Should we use it for our upcoming trip to the beach and then sell it? How much would that affect the resell price? Since summer is almost over I'm assuming its going to be harder to sell. How much difference in price would we get next year?

I think that's all the questions we have at the moment. The biggest is how much we can get for the ski being unused vs using it for maybe 10 hrs and then selling.

Thanks for any input

You are absolutely right about it being slooow. 50 mph tops, it is a beginner/entry level ski. If you like jet skiing I would take that puppy to my local Yammie dealer and pony up to the VXR with no cost in your ski you could get one for 2-3 k outta pocket and have water rocket with a much better resale than the VX sport, guys are dying to get the VXR but don't want pay retail, they are waiting for used ones to come up. Which will make them hold their value better. The ski runs out at 68 mph vs 50 mph. It has the non-supercharged 1800 4 cylinder. Now instead of a ski nobody cares about (VX SPORT) you will have the fastest normally asperated ski on the planet.

I think retail on the VXsport is about $7900. The VXR is about $11,000.00. Yes using it ten hours will drop the value about $500-$750.

If it was me Ida been down to the Yammie dealer to get my new VXR. You will get alot of your investment back when selling it more so than the VX sport.

I would definitely NOT use it and just put it up on Ebay for around $7,500. It should sell fast. I would not trade it in to the dealer because you will get ripped off. Then like Outlaw said use the money to get a more powerful machine. I'm sure you can get a nice used FZR or Sea-Doo RXT for $7k.

if you're certain you're not going to keep it: DON'T RIDE IT

Agree with the above. Don't ride it if you are going to sell it. Just like a car you will loose 10-20% of the value as soon as you put it in water. Definitely closer to 20% in salt water, cause guys automatically knock of more for skis used in salt.

Call a dealer, you might be able to trade it in for a VXR/VXS. The VX is a pretty easy ski to resale. If not put it on Ebay and Craigs list. Price from a dealer depends on the model (VX comes in 3 flavors; Sport, Deluxe, and Cruiser). $8000-9000 from a dealer.

I'm certain that I don't want the particular ski we won. Sounds like I'm better off selling without using it at all. I'm just worried about the time of year and summer winding down.

Honestly I really need a new truck before a ski so probably just invest some of what I make off selling the ski into a nice down payment on a truck. Thanks for the input so far keep it coming!
