Default VX110 Speedometer Problem

Need some advice....
My '07 VX110 has been picture perfect up until last weekend. Some friends borrowed it for a few days and when they returned it....speedometer is flaky.

Upon acceleration, it immediately hits 40 to 45, then backs off to 20's instantly. Without even changing speeds, the speedometer will change 10-15 mph in a second or two.

It is a digital speedometer.....is this a part that needs to be replaced? Possibly something needing to be cleaned out?

Just want to know if this has happened to anyone before.

Thanks.

Look at the speed sensor wheel (looks like a paddle wheel). It will be located or as part of the ride plate. Typically what happens is that the little axle that goes through the paddle wheel wears out the plastic housing and starts to run off center. I don't know that there is any way to repair it. You may have to look at a replacement (#21): 2007 VX1100AF - WAVERUNNER VX CRUISER Yamaha Waverunner ELECTRICAL 3 Diagram and Parts

I've never seen the digital display be the problem with the speed-O. It is just about always the sensor module.
