Default 2003 FX Cruiser Bilge Pump Question

Bought this a few day ago and giving it a good once over. Tested the bilge pump today and it does not seem to be working. I poor 2 buckets of water in and the pump did not kick in. Does this ski have to be running for it to work?

I boat a new 3 wire rule 500 GPH 2.5 A pump, hooked it up to the ski and put the pump into a bucket of water, still nothing. Started the ski for about 10 seconds still nothing. Hooked the pump up to a jump box and the pump works.

I have checked the fuses (6 of them) and all seem good. Going to replace them all tomorrow just in case. The ski will be in the water docked during the season, so it would seem that I would want an automatic (turns on every 2.5 minutes and checks for water) since it would be left in the water just in case it takes on water slowly. There may be times where a week may pass in which the ski would not be looked in on, just left in the water.

My questions are:

1. Does the ski have to be on in order for the bilge pump to get water?
2. If the fuse is good, what other reason would there be that the pump is not getting power to run?

1. The bilge pump only operates when the engine is running and for about 30 seconds after you shut it off. It is strictly manual and it does not have an automatic feature or float to detect water.
2. It should run with the engine on, and you should hear it running for around 30 seconds after you kill the engine. If not you may have a bad connection somewhere or just a bad pump.

For your use, storing the ski on the water, I'd look at installing an automatic bilge pump. You may also want to look at an additoinal battery for use at the dock.
