Which Yamaha to chose
I have a 02 XLT1200 and I'm sick of having the carbs rebuilt. 3 times in 4 years. Last time was not a fuel issue... anyhow
I might be looking to buy new and was curious to hear opinions from people on their various skis. I am leaning towards yamaha but dont mind hearing other opinions...
speed and performanace are at the top of the list...
all feedback is appreciated. Thanks,

Yamaha VXR. 68 mph stock on normally aspirated 4 stroke 1800 cc engine that has proven very reliable over the past 3 years. Very good fuel mileage on 87 octane.

thanks.
i like the look of the VXS more. Seems the only diff. is the VXR has a glove box. I would imagine performance is the same?
The FZR is supercharged and about $2500 more. Any idea how much speed the supercharger adds?

Believe it or not the VXR/VXS actually beat the FZR in Boat Tests review. The light weight of the VXR makes up the HP difference the SC adds to the heavier FZR, but speeds were very close.........both of them will run close to 68 mph. Keep in mind that there is an agreement right now between PWC manufacturers and the Coast Guard to limit the speed of PWCs to around 68 mph. I suspect that the FZR has some modifications added to limit its top speed...........that is why it is more easily modified by guys that want to go faster. Where you will really notice the difference is at the fuel pump. The VXR/VXS burns around 13 gph at WOT, while the FZR with the hungry SC burns over 21 gph at WOT.
IMO the addition of the re-boarding step makes the VXR worth the extra $$$, but I've heard many say they like the seat on the VXS better. Exact same performance between the VXR and VXS.
If you plan to race you should go with the FZR/FZS, since there are more mods available, and for another $6000-$8000 you can get it into the mid 80s. Fuel costs are no concerns for guys that do those mods.

Sounds like the best advice and well explained. I wish I was in the market for a second machine the VXS looks like the way to go. Right now I'm looking to invest in something that will hopefully have more speed than any of these machines.....a Divorce, lol.

The Seadoo RXT's are also a good choice for performance. I took a 2006 RXT from 215 hp to approx 300 hp with the RIVA STAGE III kit and some other goodies. It will pull the handle bars outta your hands if you are not wearing riding gloves. Top speed is approx 75 miles an hour on GPS @ 8450 rpms. This ski is a total sleeper except for the exhaust sound from the thru hull exhaust.
I have not been beaten by any new ski period.

Like said already, it really all comes down to how fast you want to go. The VX is fast stock and with mods will get you mid 70s. If you want to go faster then an FZ is probably going to be your ride since you said swying toward Yammis. It's pretty easy to get to 80 with an FZR. Plate, grate, ecu reprogam,fp, sc wheel, intake, intercooler, and exhaust and your at 80 plus. You will never be 80 plus without turbo and major $$ in a vx. Seadoo still too unreliable for me for the mod level I run at, but thats just my opinion

You have never seen my "new" Yammi that does 86.7 GPS lmao.
Unless your comparing a new "stock" ski to your "stage 3" ski.. which is just... wierd? why would you do that?
I know this board isn't really that much into real modified stuff but c'mon dude, read a little more before you post this stuff...

Was Just offering suggestions and I don't lie about how my ski runs never ever seen a FZR run 86.7 mph 19 mph gain from stock?? 80 is more like it. I don't even think J. Gaddis's is that fast, they are doing that with a GPR hull with a supercharged SEADOO motor installed by Hydro Toys and hitting those speeds. I have not been beaten by an FZR to date with or with out mods, probably haven't found one that was set up right, maybe yours is a FREAK. The RIVA STAGE III kit is only adverstised to run 74-76 fast on an RXT, up from 68 mph strock, now an RXP will run 80 with the same kit. Remember these motors where only 215 hp to start with. How many HP is your ski?
BTW your comment about mods on a Seadoo doesn't make sense, as my mods don't give me any trouble at all after 60 hours on this ski.
Take Care,
Outlaw
