Default 96 wave venture 1100 engine issue

I have a 96 wave venture 1100 triple. The problem is it wont idle for more than a few seconds and it likes to bog down when I hit the gas. However today it got pretty bad. At one point I was doin a straight run for maybe 50 yard and it just died outta no where. The guy I bought it from said it gets a little too much oil which I guess is better than not enough right? But it almost seems like its interupting the burning and compresion process in the cylinders. And would it be possible for it to be too much compression and lift the head or affecy the valves ect... In hoping its only a dirty fuel filter if it has one. Anyone have any advise or tips??? Thank you
