Default Help Please!

I have a 98 xl760 that has a really hard time starting. I just realized when trying to start it on the trailer at home that there seems to be raw fuel coming out the exhaust when I'm cranking it to start. Any suggestions? I don't know what steps to take next.

Sounds like you are not getting spark. Pull the plugs and see if they spark. You have to ground them, and be sure to clean up that gas first............you don't want to blow yourself up.

No spark could be a whole bunch of possibilities (kill switch, stator, CDI, loose wire).

I believe I'm getting spark because If i crank it for awhile and play with the throttle it will eventually start. Sometimes I just have to put the battery charger on it because it kills the battery from cranking it so much.

I'll double check to make sure I'm getting spark tho.

If your exhaust is filling up with gas that is a classic sign that at least 1 cylinder is not firing. It may not be a spark problem, but that is most common and easiest to fix, you could have a trashed cylinder (worst case). Be careful until you find the problem. I've actually seen the waterbox explode after it fills up with enough gas and then ignites.

After messing around with the ski for awhile i think i have found the problem. I got the ski running and turned the fuel off and let it run out of fuel and shut off on its own. I then let the ski sit for and hour and i then turned the fuel on and it started right over perfectly. After talking to others I believe the problem is with the carb. The conclusion I came down to is the float in the carb is stuck and its dumping fuel into the intake and flooding it out when its not started so by the time i go back to start it again it won't crank over. I usually leave the fuel on after i ride it. Any input on this or how to fix it?

Thanks
