Default Help please.. Willing to pay!!!

Ill give yall the full story, and if someone can help me figure this out, I am willing to pay a small amount.. Back in the begining of summer I got on my 2006 FX High Output (or FX140) and started it up and idled through the no wake zone for about five minutes and the oil warning light started going off. I idled back to the dock and took it to the house and noticed that the hull was full of water. Later I found out that the oil filter had corroded due to salt water and I lost all engine oil. I changed the filter and put new oil in and cleaned the crap out of the hull and tried to start it again, and it fired up and died shortly after. I hit the starter again and it started and immediately died. I hit the starter one more time and all I got was a single click. from the started seloniod. I did some research and started with the easiest thing first and changed the relay and it is still doing the same thing. I have been told about ten different things from five different mechanics ranging from simple ground issues or battery problems to the engine locked up or it being hydra-locked. Can someone please help me try to figure this out? If you send me a PM I can give you my phone number and we can talk and try to figure this out. I am just wanting to get the dang thing running so I can sell it to buy a fourwheeler. If need be, and you have a pay pal account we can work out some kind of monetary ammount if needed.

Thanks alot guys and gals..

No reason that I can see for it being hydro-locked, but depending on how long you ran it after the oil light came on, I'd suspect that you may have ruined one or more cylinders and you could have done other internal damage. Running an engine even for a very short time with no oil can cause major damage.

How much oil did you put back in? With the engine cold where is the oil level on the dipstick?

I suspect you killed your battery with all the starting attempts. Try it with a new battery first. If you can get it to turn over then go to next step.

Next step is to do a compression check then I could tell you more. Pretty easy to do: pull the spark plugs, insert compression gauge with extension that matches the spark plug length into a cylinder, hold the throttle wide open and crank. You want to see 164 psi or more (it may be a little low on a cold engine). Put a couple of drops of oil into the spark plug hole and try it again and see if the number changes. If you don't feel confident doing the compression you could take it to and auto mechanic, and get it done.........it would be pretty cheap. Just remember to tell them to hold the throttle wide open when they do it.

If you get some compression numbers, I can tell you more, but at this point it doesn't sound good. Engines on these things are pretty hard to damage, but once they are, fixing them is a real bitch (and not cheap).

I'll provide all the help I can, and there are other guys on this site than can help as well. Save your $$$, you will probably need them for the repairs.

Thanks for the response. I actually thought the battery was the first problem and went and got a new one that I had to fill and charge and have been trying to trouble shoot with the "new" battery with the same results. However, I am only getting about 11.4 volts when trying to start it, and the led screen is going out pretty quick after hitting the start button (which is not normal). do you see any problem with me trying to jump it from my truck battery or a smaller car battery to eliminate the battery issue?

A good battery should show around 12.5 volts. I'd try your truck or car battery and see if you can get it to turn over. Yamaha recommends not to jump it with the car or truck running............it can damage the ECU. Best bet is to pull the battery out of the car or truck completely and try it.

If you can't get it to turn over its probably locked up. Try removing the spark plugs and see if it will turn over with them out.
