Default TC-W3 oil ?

ok, might be a lame question, but I went to West Marine to buy oil for my 02 xlt 1200 and they did not have any yamalube ($45). The guy said I could use any TC-W3 oil (for 2 strokes)($15.99). When I got home I compared it to the empty yamalube bottle and nowhere does it say TC-W3 on the yamaha bottle. Are they infact interchangeable? Is the West Marine brand any good?

Thanks for the help guys.

The TCW-3 oil is a high grade two stroke oil that burns ashless should work ok. Typically PWC manufactuers want you to use their oil because of warranty purposes. But after the warranty it is a mute point.

Wait, isn't the TCw3 oil for outboard motors? If so I always heard you should not use them.

Not for outboards. It's what they recommend in two strokes. At least it is for my 800

There has been a big debate over TC-W3 oils in Yamaha engines in the past. I've heard that SeaDoo guys had the same debate over using them or not, and I've been told that SeaDoo says definitely do not use TC-W3 oils in their 2 stroke skis (maybe just a way to sell their own oil). I don't remember all the specifics, but I know for Yamaha you are best off staying with the Yamalube if you still have the catylitic converter in your ski, otherwise I don't know that it matters.
