Default my boat is sinking>>>>>>>>>>

My 2005 yamaha vx110 is leaking from the joint pipe. I just put a new engine in it and I guess I broke the seal somehow. Any ideas how to seal it up again. Do I need to take the jet pump out? or slide the engine forward to disconnect from the coupler? what do I use to seal it again (west system)? Is this common?
thanks

Not an uncommon problem on the VX. Only way to fix it permanently is to remove the plate, clean the surfaces very thoroughly and re-seal it. Best product is 3M 5200 (get the fast set unless you can wait a week). The keys are to get the surfaces really clean. Sand the metal with 200 grit paper. Don't use alcohol since it interferes with the 5200. You may find that the bolts are stripped out on the plate, and will need to be filled and re-tapped (often over torqued from the factory). You need them to hold some pressure until everything sets.

Good Luck!

Never done it myself, but have been told the engine needs to be out to do it right, as well as the pump. That's one reason it is a very expensive repair at a dealership. If the ski has been used in salt water you may find that you also need to replace any corroded parts you find.

Do a web search on "VX Hull leak" and you may find more help.

any ideas on how to remove the plate. It is still attached pretty firmly. Any ideas how to remove it without destroying the hull. Any idea what that material is they used to seal it. I can so some research how to remove it with causing damage.

Thanks

I've heard heat it and pry it up, but not much else. Yamaha doesn't show the material they use for the sealant in the service manual. I suspect (guess) it is a form of Threebond gasket material, because they use this material on several other areas of the ski for a sealant. I don't recommend using it as a replacement, because it obviously failed the first time. You might try using a gasket removal spray and let it sit for a while to see if that loosens it up.
