Default 01 gp1200 question

I just bought a used 2001 gp 1200. I like the machine it has nice speed. my question is when I accelerate it takes a bit to pick up speed. it doesn't seem to be bogging down just seems not to be grabbing. when the machine gets on top of the water it grabs and you can feel the acceleration. Is this a common problem? could be something like the intake grate? I was reading online and thats seems to be a common upgrade on this model. Or could it be anything else. My first time riding this model and just not sure if this is normal or there might be a problem.

Thanks Tom

Sounds like you are getting some cavitation. Check the prop for nicks and dents, and check the clearance between the prop and housing.

Tom,

What did you end up doing to fix the problem? I sucked up some sand and had similar poor acceleration problems, but I quit riding immediately due to fear of creating more damage. Mine is a 97 GP1200.

I don't know anything about WaveRunner diagnostic, but I am going to start by overhauling the jet pump unit. Here is a video of the start of the process. GP1200 Jet Pump Unit Removal - 12 easy steps. - YouTube
