Default 99 GP760 dead (Solved)

It was running fine and now it won't start. It doesn't crank, click, or anything. The battery is fully charged and the fuse is good. I cannot even get the gauges to come on. I tried disconnecting the blue connector in the front and pressing the Mode button to see if the gauges would come on. According to the owners manual that is supposed to allow you to switch between Start and PADLOC modes.

This machine has only 67 hours on it and has always been used in fresh water. Everything looks like brand new with no corrosion on anything.

Has anyone else seen this before? Does anyone have the service manual for the 99 GP760? I'm wondering what it has in there about the electrical.

Be sure to read through the owners manual about how to reset the lock code. You have to completely reset it or you will not be able to start the ski. You should see "Start" on the display once you are done.

Make sure the battery is showing 12.5 volts unloaded. Look for a loose connection first. Trace the leads from the battery to the starter, starter solenoid, etc.. Take the start/kill switches apart and look for loose wires and corroded connections. Make sure there is nothing stuck in the pump.

Once you are sure all connections are good, try jumping the starter solenoid (jump the 2 large + wires). If it starts you have a bad solenoid. If it doesn't start, pull the starter and connect it directly to the battery with a set of jumper cables and make sure the starter spins. If not you have a bad starter. If the starter spins when not connected to the engine, pull the spark plugs and be sure you can turn the engine over by hand. If not your engine is locked (blown).

I don't get anything on the display.

The battery is reading 12.7 volts.

I don't think the motor is frozen. I don't even hear the solenoid click.

It could be the solenoid or the start/kill switches. I don't think that would explain why I cannot get the display to come on. Do the start/kill siwtches go to a connector somewhere that I can check their operation with a meter?

I've read the owners manual on the PADLOC function. It says that if you unplug the blue connector in the front compartment the wanring light should come on. Then you hold Mode for three seconds. If I unplug the blue connector the warning light doesn't come on and holding Mode for three seconds doesn't bring up anything on the display. Its like the power from the battery isn't making it to the display. Wthout a schematic its hard to trace where the power is supposed to go.

Disconnect your battery for a few secs and reconnect. Then press Mode and A (at the same time) and it should prompt you for the security code.

Just had the same problem. on my 97. What i did was rerouted the red plug to the clear one bypassing the start section of the indication panel and it started. Although i still have no readout at all. And i tryed all the tips the manual had to offer.

Default Solved!

I found the issue. There was a bad ground to the electrical box. Instead of trying to splice the ground wire, I made a ground strap that goes from the negative side of the battery to one of the mounting bolts for the electrical box. That was very easy to do since the head of the mounting bolts are located in the rear storage compartment where the battery is located.

It runs great now!
