Getting into freestyle/freeride

Alright im interested in getting into some freeride/freestyle riding. Ive never had a standup but have had a few couches in the past.

Anyways, just looking to get some tips on what I need to get started. Ive been looking at used superjets and it seems that most ive found are the pre 1996 version with the square nose and single carb.

What year models should I be looking for. Also what upgrades do i need to do to get this thing ready to run some freestyle on? Im looking to keep the budget around 3-4k and i dont mind doing some work and making a project out of it.

thanks guys

The round nose SJ is actually kind of hard to find. The Kawi SXI is a good ski, and if your around 4g you can find an SXR also. As for freestyle, a hand pole limiting rope, 0 degree bars, and foot holds would be a good place to start. Once you get those, and learn to ride you could start your motor mods. Are you going to ocean or lake ride, and where at?

if your going to get into flatwater freestyle, the stock superjet or sxi will suffice for now. depending on your budget will really play a big part on the ski you end up with. some mods are more critical than others. if your just starting out, the main thigs you want to consider is the platform.
the kawasaki is a great performance ski, though its a bit heavy and more expensive to modify, unless you go with the sxr. the sxr really isnt a freestyle ski though because of how wide and heavy the ski is.

the superjet either the squarenose or the roundie are in my opinion easier and cheaper to modify, they are lighter and more geared toward the style of riding your looking for. the parts are readily available, and you can usually find decent used parts as well.

ive seen the sq nose skis with some mods already done for 1500 ish, and the round nose starts around 3000 ish.

or you can pick up a hull, and build one yourself if you have the knowledge.
