Winch for pulling pwc on dolly onto beach

I have a 17 Yama VP cruiser and am looking for winch recommendations for pulling my pwc about 60 Feet onto beach. I have a 6 wheel Florida sailcraft dolly but beach is slightly too steep and muddy at lower tides to get onto beach. Iíd appreciate any powered or manual winch recommendations.

What would the winch be mounted to? I would suggest a small UTV winch (maybe 3000-4000 lb capacity) would be the right size. Get one with a synthetic rope. Sounds like you will also need a wide-spool which might be able to hold 60 to 80 ft of rope. check Moto Alliance

Any 12v 4wd winch should work fine, and you should have enough cable to reach that, but check. Look at the cheap ones at Harbor Freight. Your also going to have to fab a anchor system.

Thanks for the input. A utility winch would work, didnít think of that. I plan to mount onto a large 4x4 post I will anchor deep into dune at the beach. I will need a portable 12v battery to power the winch. Any idea how large of a battery I would need?

A small winch likely will draw 20 or 30 amps, so a 35AH trolling motor battery will do the trick for maybe a dozen or so pulls of a couple-few minutes each before it needs charging. Go to a larger group 24 "marine/rv" battery if you need more capacity at proportionately heavier weight each time you need to haul the battery to be recharged. A solar charger might be a good addition to your setup.

We use a smaller 2500 lb atv winch on our shore ramp electric winch option, but its pulling the PWC up free-wheeling rollers and only going about 12 feet, not 60. With a 10w solar charger on a group 24 battery shared between the two ramps, the battery has never gone dead in two years of use.
