89 650sx not getting fuel in carb

I have a 89 650sx I just picked up. Finally got it all together and can not get it to run with out dumping gas in carb. I have fuel to carb and return line has pressure on it when removed from carb. I dump what I can from it and will fire til it burns that up. I just don't understand why it's not entering carburetor. Where should I start to address this. Thanks !!!

Pop off to high maybe, or stuck needle, fuel pump not strong enough to overcome the needle spring pressure ? Did you rebuild the carb ?

No carb was not rebuilt. Just picked this up trying to get it running. Had to replace starter relay to get to turn over now I'm trying to get running. New to these units so a bit lost.

Ok. It needs to be rebuilt. If it is the orig carb it should be a mikuni bn. Will have the round style fuel pump. If it is a later sbn it will have the square style pump.

You just need a cdk kit. A true Keihin kit is best, but a wsm kit will work. Just reuse the needle spring and verify pop off.
