Seadoo XP 98 wont start filppin last summer, I did nothing till now

Actually flipped over this machine, this happened last summer and I didn't do anything until this summer but what I've done so far was.

I took off spark plugs, shot the water out of the engine by starting it repeatedly, replace with new spark plugs, check spark plugs when starting while off machine and I'm getting a spark.

I'm getting a light spark tho. I'm not sure what the level of the Spark should be, maybe it's not strong enough. Battery is fully charged. Gas is getting in the engine.

So that's pretty much where I am with this

Yes, I'm new to these issues, but i'm pretty handy, I'm a 20 year carpenter, just need to know what I should attempt to do next. I was also think maybe there still some water in the engine mixing with the gas as i'm attempting to start this machine.

Thanks

JB

Water sitting in a two stoke is detrimental. It will rust up all the bearings. If you were to get it to run, I will just about lay money that you might have 2 hours use before it self detonates are the bearings fail. You would be lucky if it didn't totally destroy the cyl's or worse.
I would either get a rebuilt crank in it along with new rings, wrist pins, and wrist pin bearings now. At least this way you should not have to bore and get new pistons.
Other option is getting a good used engine, but you are taking a chance there.

Wow, engine work, I would have to get a shop to do all that and it sounds expensive. How much would all that cost, your suggestion?

If it rust in the engine, perhaps a motor flush with some sort of rust-olem then a lubricant, i'm just trying to figure a cheaper way out here

Once the crank bearing are rusted thats it. When u run it, it will wear the rust off quickly and have extra clearance.

If you pull the engine, there are shops there that will rebuild it. One is pwc engine.

Normally your looking at 800 to a grand for a twin cyl rebuild. You might check with them. They might know of someone that will do the r&r for you, or know of a good used engine.

I just asked about a 717 rebuild and replacement... $1850 all in by someone who builds them himself... farms nothing out. It's expensive but you get what you pay for. $899 for a rebuilt engine, $80 for tax, you are at $1000 and you haven't got it installed. If the replacement took 5 hours @ $80 an hour labor you are at $1400 with a replacement engine. $1850 actually seems reasonable at that point... But you can find running jetskis for $1500 out there, for $2000 you can find some that actually look nice with good compression... but you are always rolling the dice.

I have been told that if you get water in an engine, remove the plugs, crank to get water out, then get it started ASAP. Run it for at least 2 hours to get it and keep it hot... it can help remove the water. But bottom line it DO NOT LET IT SIT.
