I have a clean 98 Seadoo GS with the 717 motor. I have had it for 2 years. Initially I had to replace the MPEM and the stator but it ran great after that. After the first year I decided to try to fix the fuel gauge by opening up the fuel pickup and soldering the resister to get it back online. Unfortunately the glue I used to put it back together wasnít up to the task and failed. This began the yearlong struggle i have been going through.
1st bought aftermarket pickup without fuel sender to save little dough
2nd replaced all gray fuel lines with automotive black lines
3rd carb rebuild
4th went through all the vent holes
5th new battery
6th new spark plugs
7th new ignition coil and leads
8th carb clean and rebuild
9th new inline fuel filter
10th pressure tested fuel tank and vent valves
10th cleaned fuel selector
11th entirely new OEM mikuni carburetor
12th new wear ring and turbine oil (thought it was cavitating)
These are the current symptoms. Starts up on trailer and in water and idles perfectly. As soon as you go to take off it seems to hit a rev limit and doesn't want to fully rev up and accelerate. If you let it slowly accelerate up to speed it will evennnnnntuallllyyyy get on plane and you hit a certain speed with the throttle at full and it takes off and runs flat out. Let off the throttle and it wonít take off again until it gets enough speed. Choke makes it worse, opening gas tank doesn't help, pumping throttle doesn't help. i might have to take it to the dreaded dealership. any help would be incredible.
Get a pop off gauge and check the needle pop off. Make sure the regulator diaphragm is installed correctly. The metal disk with holes faces the needle and the vent hole in the cover should be at the bottom. If you changed the needle spring, do you have the old one ? If so, put it back in. Any time that spring is changed, pop off must be checked. Make sure the return line is not blocked, but i don't think that's the issue.
