My GTI tends to idle very slowly and sometimes dies when I'm not on the throttle. How do I adjust the idle speed?

I am not familiar with that model. The best thing to do would be to get some sort of a shop manual for anything you are working on. You may just be able to tighten one screw on the carb to speed the idle up. It would be the screw that seats the throttle. Although it could be a fuel air mixture thing, and therefore time for a basic tune up.
yes buy the shop manual
simple question ?

The guy just asked the simplest of questions and you ask him to buy a manual ??
Just lost all faith in this site.

Before you try adjusting your idle speed screw, check your inline fuel filter on top of your gas tank to make sure it's not clogged. If it is, clean it or replace it. If not, then try the idle screw.
Simple question? Shop manual<----Best tool in the garage

First of all there buddy, a shop manual will aid in the overall effectiveness in any repair. I own a shop manual for all my toys, including cars and it’s a great reference! The guy asked about his idle, I recommended a shop manual, and then you bash that. I would of hated to recommend him to do something that could of ruined his PWC when a SIMPLE $20 Haynes manual could of corrected any confusion about his problem. Maybe is people like you that make sites like this bad.

I apologize to any other users of online forums that have to deal with inconsiderate unappreciative people like that.

First of all "buddy" i was not "bashing" u for recommending a manual, but a lot of people do not really understand these manuals,so seek a more simplistic answer to there problem, how would you feel if u went to your doctor and he said "just go get yourself a medicine book and work it out for yourself " !!(amen & haleluja)
