2000 GP 800 hand cranks but stops.

I have a 2000 GP 800. All i get is a loud clunk from the starter. I pulled the jet drive, installed a new battery and tested the relay solenoid. If I turn it by hand with the plugs out it only goes so far and makes a loud clank and stops. Any ideas or suggestions....
