I have a 2004 Yamaha 1200 XLT that has some kind of ignition issue. Fuel, spark, battery are all good because when it decides to work it starts right problem.

When you push the starter button/switch you get faint thump sound coming from the main electric box. Sounds like a gate or switch opening and closing. Let off and try again and repeated pushes on the start button get this response consistently. After several attempts the starter will fire and the ski starts right up.

When the unit is cold this might take 3-8 trys on the starter button to get the starter to fire. After riding 10-15 minutes the ski will typically start on one push of the button so that adds to the mystery.

Again the battery is brand new. The problem seems to be in the path from start button to the starter. What parts are in that path that could be causing this issue?

Thanks in adavance.
