82 kawasaki js550 questions

i just bought an 82 Kawasaki js550. it needs a little work like a carb rebuild and new mats and a paint job. is there an easier way to remove all the old mats to replace them? also, does anyone have any suggestions for retailers that sell performance parts cheaper that i can get for it? i am in college and not looking to spend too much money on this, i've always wanted a stand up since i was a kid and finally got one and i want it to look nice. thanks

What is wrong with the mats are they peeling off? If not I'd just leave them alone.

yeah the side mats were peeling off so i got them off with a heat gun and left the bottom mat. but its in rough shape to so i will eventually have to replace it.

I used 3M Adhesive Remover and a gasket scraper to get my old mats off.

I've seen mat pad sets on ebay. In ebay motors, got to parts and accessories, then to personal watercraft. All kinds of parts out there. Sorry, can't speak to the quality of the mat sets....haven't ordered any yet.

Yea just got done fixing my 1979 Kawasaki 440 I bought the mats off ebay for like 75 bucks buy it now. Turned out great!
