I have a 95 sl650, I smoked a hole in the piston and I was hoping that some one could give me some info on what could have caused it and what to check out before I put a top end in it..... the cylinder wall looked good so I think it was getting oil???? Any help or info would be great thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Spark plugs wrong heat, air leak after carbs, too lean of jetting, wrong mixture jet setting, crankcase seal leak, wrong timing, overheating, excessive carbon buildup. Without oil you usually seize the rings to the cylinder wall leaving aluminum behind.

Check fuel metering diaphram in the carb which feeds the cyl with the burndt piston - it has a hole in it. Check rest of carb diaphrams - they probably are brittle and need to be replaced also.
