We bought this ski from a friend who had blown the motor. The ski had sat for about 2 years before we bought it. Ski had a new impeller and wear ring prior to blown motor. We put in an SBT motor, had carbs rebuilt, Riva flame arrestors, took off cat. converter, changed over to pre-mix, added a primer. We have had it back and forth to the water too many times to count. The ski runs great on the trailer and idles ok. But, when you try to give it some gas it bogs down and sometimes dies out. It will not plane up but just plows through the water. In response to this we have removed the flapper in the fuel in-take, drained gas tank and started with new gas and break-in oil, changed the pet-cock, changed the oil filter/seperator, checked the water box for obstructions.

What else? Any ideas?

feels like a carb problem to me, even though they were freshly rebuilt. unfortunately pulling the carbs on the XL sucks, but it's your next step - check for a stuck float.

you have proper plugs in it - BR8HS? I've seen problems where the owner's put non-resistor plugs in and had wonky issues.

Just found the problem yesterday - after putting in water 8 times last weekend testing different things - whoever removed the cat and installed D plate didn't remove all of cat - a piece of it was wedged in exhaust and totally blocking exhaust.
