1999 XL700.

It runs great out of the water. It idles perfectly. But once you plug a hose to it, or put it in the lake, it bogs out like crazy until it dies.
When plugged into the hose water kind of sprays a little and kind of trickles out near the jet at the back. Should it be shooting out instead?..

Any ideas are appreciated?

Are you getting water in your cylinders? Are the plugs dry or wet? Fouled? I would look at everything, even compression test and spark check before going after carbs or exhaust. Check exhaust hose condition and check for collapse. Usually the water just exits the exhaust with no force really.

I did find an exhaust hose that has duct tape on it.. and its not all round... You think that would do it?. I love peoples ghetto fixes.. I need to go get a new hose.. I just got this ski not even a month ago and havent even ridden it yet...
I checked the plugs.. dry.. Carbs have been cleaned too..
