Hello, I'm looking to buy a pair of 1989 Yamaha 500cc Waverunners that are for sale locally, I'm hot and heavy into snowmobiles but don't know spit about PWC, can you guys and gals tell me anything "Good" or "Bad" about early waverunners?, Maybe what to look for with common problems with these machines, I don't mind fixing them as long as it's not an engine every other week
LOL
I'm thinking these would be a good size to learn on, I've never been on a PWC ,

Thanks dave NY

PS, these are fresh water machines

don't know how useful this is going to be as I just purchased a couple of old 92/93 waverunners. I don't have any historic information but I can tell you that the ones I grabbed run strong and as far as engine go they are dead simple.

I am expecting basic maintenance will be all you need to keep them running. I would treat the purchase like any other toy purchase.

take a compression gage and check the compression each machine. the compression of each cylinder should be around the same per engine.

listen for rattles etc.
