Saw some old posts on here about a trip like this (hope I didn't miss some new ones). Anyway, I live in TX and I'm planning a trip across for June 2020. My local colleague is in and so is my brother who lives in MO. We will most likely send the wives across on the ferry and stay on the islands for 4-5 days watching the weather for the return trip.

Sure like to get some expert advice and perhaps even meet up with more folks to ride across.

Ft. Lauderdale - Freeport or Miami - Bimini

Come guys, surely this trip can be on your bucket list? Nobody in the Ft. Lauderdale area up for this?

Just got back from Grand Bahama on Sunday, left from Boynton Beach on Wednesday, a crazy inlet that gets dangerous. First trip across, 5 PWC's. Had Bimini planned but with the power and fuel issues we changed course. It's 70 miles to west end GB then another 25 to Freeport where we pulled into Port Lucaya and stayed right there in Pelican Bay.

Need extra fuel, GPS, EPIRB, VHF, flares and good weather. It was good weather, 5-10 mph sw but the 1-2 chop beat us up for that distance. We left directly from Freeport Sunday, 94 miles. Probably try Bimini next summer if they get infrastructure together, it's been 3 months since the power plant fire.

AWESOME!!

1) Anything you can tell me about the brand/model of the equipment you have would be helpful assuming
you are happy with it.
2) Any idea who will insure my ski for a trip across? I received a reply from GEICO stating they will not cover
me.
3) More than happy hook with others for a crossing........our tentative date is departing from Ft. Lauderdale where the ferry starts and going to Bimini Sat. June 6 2020

Thank you for the info! I'm going to have to find some insurance. I just bought mine a few months ago and still owe the man some coin. :tango_face_crying:
