Correct sequence:
1. Attach hose to ski (water off)
2. Start engine first!!!
3. Now start water
4 Turn off water
5. Turn off engine

The engine can run for 20 seconds or so with no water. ALWAYS START THE ENGINE FIRST OR YOU RISK PUMPING WATER THROUGH AN OPEN EXHAUST VALVE AND THEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN!

If you ride in fresh water that is fairly clean, you really don't need to flush until the end of the season when you are gettng ready to store the ski. If your lake/river has lots of trash, etc., you may want to flush more often, maybe once every 5th ride, etc..

If you ride in salt water, you should do a fresh water flush after every ride.
