So my dad gave me his 1987 550sx to tune up for him. It wouldnt start so It has been sitting since last season so I assummed it was the starter. charged the battery and still nothing. There was also still a bunch of water in the hull so i siphoned it out. On a hunch i reached under and tried to manually turn the prop. Notta the thing was siezed up. Since it ran last time anyone touched it I figured the water had rusted into place. after some banging and pulling I got the motor to spin free and the starter cranked it over just fine. but it still wouldnt start. I pulled the plugs cleaned and checked there was spark and sure enough there was. Compression checked out too. so i grabbed some starter fluid put the plugs in and it fired once or twice but not enough to start. After that no more sparking. I pulled the plugs and they were covered with this muddy looking fluid. I left the plugs out and turned the motor over and sure enough this same muddy fluid came flying out of the spark plug hole as the motor turned. Every time i cleaned the plugs i could get one or two fired then the muddy stuff would close the gap and foul out the plugs. I assume I can get the motor to clean itself out if i can get it to start up... might not run too well for a bit but it should work itself out. but i cant get the plugs to stop fouling long enough to get it to start. Are there any foul proof plugs for a jet ski of this type? I know they suck but i just need it to clean out so i can put the good plugs back in.
Thanks
Steve

sounds like bad water intrusion. did he ride it in saltwater?... you should take the motor apart and clean it out well... im willing to bet your needle bearings are shot,, same with the crank bearings...

if you dont disassemble the motor, and you run it like it is, theres a good chance the rod will come off its normal course (needle bearing out) and take out a piston and cylinder..
