I have just bought a 87 fun jet boat by D & D Marine. I've always had outboard boats and know that you can't run the motor out of the water because the water pump "melts". I want to run the fun jet on the trailer for a very short time to see if it will run when I launch it. The boat has sat under a tarp for 10 years. The engine looks good and clean without any corosion or rust, but I would like to crank the motor over to check for spark, and then maybe start it on the trailer. I can't find a garden hose conection like on the newer PWC's. Can this be done without melting a water pump, or is the engine cooled by the jet pump somehow?
