Hello everyeone,

I have hit a brick wall in trying to figure out what is wrong with my brothers jet ski. Bought a brand new battery for it to use since he said it was dead. Placed it in this morning. Will not start. He ran it two weeks ago no problems. It is a 2006 FX140 with 40 hrs on it. This should not be happening. I pulled the plugs, the starter is turning it over, the impeller is turning while it is turning over. He told me he ran over a rope last time he had it. States he removed all the rope off the shaft and none entered further up the shaft out of site. Of course this is all after I retrieved it 2 hrs away. Any tips would be appreciated. I am thinking maybe an ethanol problem? Pulled the plugs they looked good but noticed some messy looking pistons (well the top of the pistons). What does everyone think? Also had 4 flashing green speed lights.

Thanks in advance-

what does messy pistons mean. Do they have gouges out of them. Check the fuel pump is working by connecting the lanyard and listen if it powers up. The fuel pump is in the tank. If it is not working, you may have to attach a capacitor to the cam position sensor and cable tie to the loom to stop elec interference. Try new plugs first, and try starting with the air filter out.

Thanks for the info. Dirty pistons I meant was this- after removing the pplugs, I looked down into the motor to see if the engine was actually turning. I saw the pistons moving and when it reached the top I could see some black gunk on top of them. This seemed like it would be abnormal. The plugs looked great no corrosion or grime. I do hear a pump running when I hit the start button. Once I hook the killswitch up nothing happens until you hit start. (meaning no power or nothing) I am guessing this is normal as well. Getting ready to try the ethanol treatment approach as well. Anyone else have any idea what this could be?:dunno:

So when you connect the lanyard up you cant hear anything. You wouldnt hear the fuel pump while turning the engine over! THe black stuff on the pistons is normal carbon build up. ethanol treatment wont do anything. I reckon your fuel pump is not working.
