Help with Waverunner 1200 SUV!

We have a 1999 Waverunner SUV that is hard to start. New battery and spark plugs will get it running the first day on lake but after it sits for any amount of time, motor turns over but it won't start. Sometimes changing out spark plugs (even if they are not fouled) will get it started again. Suggestions??
