Can you hose down the engine and engine compartment when the engine is cool and off?

I have been told that water can get into the crankcase if this occurs.

I would think the engine was sealed and should be rinsed to remove salt and other debris from time to time.

Please help!

Make sure the engine is cold when you do it without high pressure...

On Yamaha 4 strokes, they can such water in through the seals into the bores of the spark plugs and cause corrosion.

It is never good to put col water on a hot engine and you would be surprised how long it takes for them to physically cool down.

Hosing them down is a good idea... as is coating the engine is something like Lanotec which uses lanlin. It leaves a wax over the engine and protects the engine from salt corrosion.
