I just purchased a '96 Seadoo XP. It runs great, starts right up. At idle, out of the water, there is a rattling noise coming from the impeller area, of course you do not hear this in the water, any suggestions? Thanks.
It's pretty normal to have driveshaft noise out of the water.
Verify the pump has oil in cone and maybe change it while you're there. Check that the bearings turn smooth as well.
Some PWC don't have oil in the pump so verify wetrher your craft does or doesn't require oil.
Thank you very much, that puts my mind at ease. I will check the oil in the cone, apparently it is supposed to have some according to the manual the guy gave me w/the ski. I have some learning to do. You can turn it with the engine off to check the bearings? Thanks again.
The only real way is to pull the pump and check the bearings at that time. Even if you pulled the plugs and rotated the engine you'll feel the crank, pistons, rods etc. turning through the end of the pump.
