I want to know if I should buy 2 Kawasaki 650sx stand up jet skis for $350. They are years 87 and 89 and they both don't run. The one has many things parted out but the other is pretty much intact. I want to use both skis and make one good running ski. Both motors need rebuilds so I will have to purchase a top end kit for around $250. The dude says its just the cyclinders but im worried the cylinder walls are damaged or the crank to. Please provide any insight. Worth it or Not?

Sounds like a good deal in my opinion. But one of my hobbys are repairing stuff... lol

If youre anywhere near the Bay Area in Cali.. Id be willing to buy the extra hull. I have a 650sx with a damaged hull.

I just found out both motors are out of the skis. Is it hard to put back in without knowing what it looked like before? I will have nothing to reference back to.

And i don't live in cali, i live in pa. Sorry dude

thanks a lot for the links, there great. Do the cranks ever go bad, should i pick up some new bearings for it? My plan is to just buy new pistons clean out the engine and put it back together. I don't want to find that it needed more than that, and then i have to spend more money.

Anyway, what do you think of this?? It says it comes with everything to rebuild the top end including the pistons and head. Let me know what you think? Thanks

What does this mean, "Rebuildable core cylinders required for exchange." Would i just have to mail them back all my old parts??

I had my cylinders rebuilt for 80 bucks. And picked up Wiesco forged pistons on ebay for 80 bucks when I did mine. If youre patient.. You can find the deals. But that link you found may be a better choice if youre unfamiliar with engine machining. Depending on the cylinder wear, depicts the correct pistons to buy.

Stock 650 piston is 76mm. If I remember correctly, they go in .5mm increments. So depending on the cylinder wear, would dictate the correct piston to purchase. (stock is 76mm, biggest available is 78mm) That link you posted would take out all the guess work.

In that link, they rebuild a set of cylinders and send them to you with the correct pistons. But they need your old cylinders so that they can rebuild and sell to the next guy. Its just like a core charge when you buy an alternator, or a battery at the local auto parts store.

Note: forged pistons are better. Forged is a process of how they are made. Most race skis have forged pistons. Stock pistons are simply a mold of aluminum that they pour, then machine the piston. Forged is a lot trickier of a process. But its a much stronger piston.

If its for sale, then dont worry about forged pistons. If youre going to keep it... Buy Wiesco.
