I have a 96 slx that will crank but will only idle and that's rough. I pulled the plugs and turned the engine over and I get what looks to be way too much oil.
This may/may not be the problem. Someone told me that I could by-pass the oil injection pump and just add oil the gas tank. Is this possible? How do I do it,
disable it or just remove the oil?

If the oil injector sounds like the problem, and by-pass not advised:
Is there an adjustment a shadetree mechanic can do?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

oil injection woes

Hi! I'm a newbie here, but from everything I have read, people are removing the oil injection pumps and putting a block off plate where the pumps mount. Of course, you have to block the oil hose that would normally feed the oil injection pump, and the hoses that discharge into your intake ports, but this means you still have to keep the oil level at normal in your oil tank because the engine gets it's lubrication for the bottom end via the oil tank, and of course you have to pre-mix your fuel with 2 cycle oil from now on.
To address the oily plugs, it's possible your rings are worn excessively causing the oil to wash down your plugs, could be a couple different things.
Hope this helps!
