I see these performance intake grates and wonder how its any different from the stock when all that's different is its missing two bars in it... Whats stopping me from cutting the 2 middle bars out of mine? Has anyone ever just simply taken the grate off? Side effects?

I just bought two jet skis and both of them have two bars cut from the grate. The only issue I have had was you shouldn’t start it up to close to the shore line.

I had cavitation issues with the stock grates with my XLT 1200s. Issues were resolved when I installed new intake grates, Riva I believe. The intake grates I use do not have vertical bars. they have one vertical bar in the middle and two or three horizontal "wings". I believe that this design is supposed to better direct the water flow into the impeller. Of course, I have changed the impeller too, and the ride plate. I have no cavitation issues at all with the machines.

Hope this helps
