I have been working on a friend of mines Polaris Virage 700, single carb keihin.

Complaint was that the ski was difficult to start and that it had trouble idling. First thought was to remove the carb, clean it out and replace the diaphrams, gaskets and o-rings. I also noticed that they had the OEM fuel lines on them, which is something i replaced on my sea doo just for peace of mind. After it was all put back together i fired it up and now it does not want to stay running. Playing with the throttle it will idle up and take off, but only for a few seconds. I looked around for supply side fuel leaks and found one on the side of the carb that the jets are on (for lack of the proper terminology) I am assuming this one was my fault, the kit i ordered came with several spring sizes for the needle valve and i grabbed the wrong one when i put it back together. Put the correct spring in and so far it looks like there is no fuel leaks BUT it still will not stay running.

Freshed up carb
New Fuel Lines
New spark plugs

it still does not stay running...Any ideas?

Also should point out, the guy whos ski it is bought two of the exact same skis at the same time from the same dealer. The ski that is running looks like it has some features the ski im working on does not. One of which is what i would call an accelerator pump on the side of the carb. Is this ski missing things that it should have?

Let me know if pictures help, im pretty stumped with whats going on with this ski.

Update,

Someone has been into this ski and FUBAR'd it all up, and i think i found the issue but here is a list of things wrong just for pure entertainment.

1. Someone stripped out the bolt that holds the air filter to the carb. I was able to get it out, along with all the threads. I should be able to retap it and put some different bolts in there.

2. The fasteners that hold the carb onto the intake manifold were not even tight. The carb was not secured down on the manifold when i pulled it off.

3. It almost looks like they used plastic wrap as a gasket on the intake manifold/carb flange. Not sealed at all

4. AND FINALLY what i think my issue is...the idle mixture screw is MISSING. its not even in the carb. Looked all in the hull of the ski for it to see if it maybe fell out with no luck. Im hoping this fixes it, if not then at least its a good start.

OK so to continue with the thread, does anyone know where to get an idle mixture screw for a CDKII carburator? Ive been searching the internet for one, but im not turning up much.

What a mess. Sounds like someone didn't know what the devil they were doing and had no business owning tools.
What year is it ?
Not all the CDKII carbs use the same low speed mixture screw. There should be two. Low speed and high speed. Your also going to need the spring, and oring.
You might be better off just trying to find a used carb for it and rob parts. I would also check and make sure the intake manifold is tight, and replace the oil injection lines.

Its a 2001. As far as i can tell there is no adjustment screws at all besides the idle adjustment that goes on the throttle linkage

The only thing i could find online for carbs is a set off some triple kawasaki. I didnt catch the model. As long as they are CDKIIs they should work right?

Not all cdkll's are the same. Some have pilot jets, some have oil injection nipples and are jetted accordingly. I'll look in the morning and see what i can find out.

Customer says he does not care about the cost, just wants it to run right. I guess he gets what he wants right?

No matter what kind of ski it came off, it should all be the same mixture screws correct? At least thats what the keihin website tells me.

Let me know what you find out! Ill do some more research as well. Thanks!

Ill also post some pictures of the carb tomorrow if that would help. Probably wouldn't hurt for me to see if there is a part number on it also...

OK, that carb (i'm assuming it's the single carb SLH), doesn't use a high speed screw (the few). Here is a list of Polaris pwc's that use the same low speed screw. I can't guarantee that if you use a mixture screw from another mfr like Kawi will work, but if you have one lying around you can try it.
I would be Leary of buying just a mixture screw from anyone because it might not be right. Better off getting a whole 40mm carb.

Thanks!

Since its only 23 bucks im going to give it a try, worst that happens is it doesnt work and i hopefully should be able to send it back.

If that doesnt work ill have to shop around for a carb. Not having much luck finding any from a polaris though...

Appriciate the help!
