Bought a used SeaDoo, took it to shop, they told me it would be $900 to fix because it had a cracked cylinder and needed new pistons. I told I didnt have the money to fix it and I would just come and pick it up. They told me I had to pay for what they did (tear into the engine) which I did, no problem ($160). I get it home (1 1/2 drive) and take off seat to inspect. The motor was all took apart..they didnt put it back together, am I wrong to think that It should come back to me they way I dropped it off? When I take my car to the shop for estimates, this never happens. Advice?

I had this happen once but I told them to put the head back on before I payed for the work. They did.

They should have let you know up front how you would get it back.As we do before putting the time into the labor. Yes it is standard practice to tear into a motor to really give you a to the pennie est. They should have givvin you an idea about cost if the boat had no compression before the tear down.
