Anyone experienced a meltodown of the coil on their VX 110 series or other 4 stroke Yamaha's?

Had one occur this weekend to the point it destroyed the plug. No hex head to the get it out with. Any suggestions to extract the plug tip?

Only 30 hrs on the Waverunner.

Also, can't seem the find the connector that connects to the coil assembly. Anyone know where I can buy one of these or have an old one I can buy?

Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sean

Don't know for sure. Yamaha tech says he thinks the coil shorted then caught fire. Ceramic part of plug and hex head were all loose and detached when they took the coil out.

Just buy another coil from a Yamaha dealer. There may be some at jet sports QLD, Australia. Find them on the net. To get the plug out you may have to bash a 5/8 socket over the lot until you can grab the hex and undo it. Weird issue!

If that is considered normal

Spoke to a Yamaha Product specialist today. They consider this failure at 30 hrs normal.

...then I would ask them to buy the waverunner back from me. That should absolutely not be normal. If your plug was loose thats another story. Make sure you precheck tightness on everything before launching.

Wow. If it happens to me, I certainly hope it happens in the first year ;-)

The yamaha tech telling you that is a no no. That is certainly not a normal issue. I have worked on yamahas for 14 years and never seen this.
