Reading on other forums about spped tips, it seems it is preferred to sant the hull (in 1 direction) rather than waxing it... anyone try either methods and gain any speed? Also, any details/input is appreciated.
Boat racers will sand the hull length wise to help increase speed, but the effect is only noticeable on large boats with lots of surface area. I really doubt that you would gain even a 1/10th of a mph on a ski by sanding the hull. Definitely not worth the effort.
At the same time, waxing the hull of a ski will not significantly decrease the speed by any measurable amount. When a ski is on plane the actual amount of hull area in contact with the water is minuscule.
I agree with Ernest, I own a 29 ' BAJA OUTLAW and out of 29 ' of boat about 7' is in the water at WOT. I use Turtle Wax Ice on my skis and my boat on the back half of the bottom. It is a synthetic spray on wax. It seems real slick and leaves no residue.
