1996 Tigershark Montego

In an earlier post about a month ago I was posting that I was going to buy a TS montego but not running. Went ahead and bought it anyway and great news. Runs like a top! Starter solenoid, carb rebuild, and some cleaning and she fires right up and drives great. Took it out on the water today for about 10-15 minutes and only have two issues.
1) The steering mechanism behind the jet pump is rattling. There’s one main bolt running top to bottom that holds the cone on as well as lets it pivot to steer. It is rattling on that bolt, are there any bushings that are supposed to be on there or no?
2) The bulge pump is not pumping water out while riding. I don’t think they are stock on montegos so not sure how it is wired in. I know that when I unplugged it and put it to battery voltage it worked fine but is there something that makes the pump come on while riding?

You should have a bilge button on the start/stop switch assy. It's on top at the front. There is also a relay, and that relay could be bad.
First, I would pull the switch apart and clean the contacts with 2000 grit paper, and if that doesn't work, check the relay. You should be able to find a suitable replacement at any decent auto parts store. Just take the old one, or the numbers off a new one. I would assume it's in the electrical box.

Quick research shows that folks are using this relay is a direct replacement. AR350 If you want it today, try Autozone.

Found the issue. Inline fuse holder was the issue. The montegos either did not come with a bilge pump or this one has a different switch assembly. Only start stop buttons on this ski. So everything is great except for the rattling from the steering mechanism in the rear

Are you sure it's the steering nozzle rattling ? Might want to check out the jet pump.

Yes I’m sure. It’s hard to show it unless I could send a video to show the play in the steering mechanism.

I believe you. Might find a parts site and see if there is a bushing that goes in there.
Is it vertical play or just slop on the bolt from the hole wearing out ? Vertical play can be taken up with nylon washers and marine grease for lube.
